Chilworth Riding Club
Chilworth Riding Club was formed in 1978 by a small band of enthusiastic riders based in Chilworth, near Southampton. It has grown in strength and stature over the years and now has a membership of around 160. Members are located in a fairly wide area around the northern and western edges of Southampton, Romsey, down the Waterside, into the New Forest and north to Salisbury.
The club offers a wide range of activities; training, competitions, fun rides and social evenings.
Training is provided at very reasonable rates using a variety of trainers such as Heather Ashley, Cindy Sims and Jilly Bull, who are positive and encouraging. Several training sessions are held each month for both flatwork and jumping and the club has also offered special clinics with trainers such as Richard Waygood and Robert Pickles.
The club also provides a good range of competitions. Our open spring dressage is a must attend event and this is followed by a summer series in both show jumping (the club has its own set of jumps) and dressage. The annual club Hunter Trial held at Dene Farm attracts riders from far and wide.
As an affiliated riding club, we also take part in all the riding club area qualifiers and have a good degree of success, regularly qualifying teams for the British Riding Clubs National Championships. Chilworth were recently National Open Dressage Champions and have also finished in the runners up position in this class.
The special Christmas, Easter and Bluebell rides attract many members who enjoy a hack out in enjoyable company.
Club social evenings always achieve a good turn out and we have included in the programme talks on foot balance and lameness in the horse, equine dentistry, sports psychology, physiotherapy and horse and rider biomechanics.
Most of all, the club prides itself as being friendly and approachable, encouraging novice riders and supporting the more advanced.
Ride Together – Train Together – Compete Together – Have Fun Together at Chilworth Riding Club.
