HELPFUL HINTS

Below are some general guidelines to help new members or members taking part in a riding club activity.

If you have any other questions please phone one of the Chilworth Committee.  We are here to support and are always happy to try to help!

WARMING UP AT COMPETITIONS AND RALLIES

~ to avoid riding into an oncoming horse, the rule is that horses should pass left to left.

~ if you are in walk in a warm up area, take the inside track.

~ beware of horses with ribbons in their tails:

Red means the horse may kick

Green means the horse is young

White means the horse is a stallion

~ warm up jumps are usually flagged to avoid collisions.  Jump the obstacle with the red flag on your right and the white flag on your left.

DRESS CODE FOR RIDING CLUB ACTIVITIES

Hats are compulsory for any person mounted.  They must meet current British Riding Club Rules.

Dressage – our ‘in house’ evening dressage competitions do not require that horses are plaited as many members are rushing home from work.!  However, it is generally smart with competitors in jackets, ties and gloves.

Show Jumping – our ‘in house’ evening showjumping requires long sleeves preferably a riding club sweatshirt or jacket.  Back protectors are recommended.

Cross Country rallies – Long sleeves required.  Back protectors are compulsory and should be to the current British Riding Club standard (see  British Riding Club rules).

For all dress code and tack requirements for competitions, please refer to British Riding Club rules  http://www.bhs.org.uk/Riding/British_Riding_Clubs.  Go to their competitions page for the current rule book.
